123 Sync Video Tutorials: Server Configurations

All our tutorials are YouTube hosted video tutorials so you need to allow your system to display YouTube videos. Also, some tutorials may not exactly correspond to the latest version of 123 Sync but they cover what we believe is 99% of the information necessary for you to understand the functionality and concept. Enjoy!

Here are the most common server configuration setups that we have found. Each configuration comes with a set of videos on how to set it up and run. Have fun!!!

Rule #1: wherever you install 123 Sync, you have to have Act! installed.

Rule #2: disable all other sync programs in Act! so that they do not interfere with 123 Sync.

1. Exchange on a local network with a networked Act! server. 123 Sync is installed on the Exchange Server.

  1. Install Act! and 123 Sync on the Exchange server.
  2. Connect Act! to the database on the Act! server.
  3. Restore/install the CDO Mapi setup in Exchange. This installs the libraries required by 123 Sync to access Exchange. Video Tutorial
  4. Establish the login gateway to Exchange. Video Tutorial.
  5. Set the exchange permissions so that the target Exchange user data may be opened. Video Tutorial.
  6. Configure 123 Sync to Access Act! and Exchange. Video Tutorial

  8. Setup the Background Windows Service. Video Tutorial

2. Exchange is on a local network with a networked Act! server. 123 Sync is installed on the Act! Server.

  1. Install Act! and 123 Sync on the Exchange server.
  2. Connect Act! to the database on the Act! server.
  3. Restore/install the CDO Mapi setup in Exchange. This installs the libraries required by 123 Sync to access Exchange. Video Tutorial

3. Exchange is on a local network with a networked Act! server. 123 Sync AND Outlook are installed on the Act! Server.

  1. Install Act! and 123 Sync on the Exchange server.
  2. Connect Act! to the database on the Act! server.
  3. Configure Outlook to access the folders on the exchange server. There are many tutorials on the web regarding on how to do this. Search for "Setting up Outlook to access multiple accounts from same profile". We provide for a very simple one here. Video Tutorial.

4. Exchange is Hosted. 123 Sync is installed on the Act! Server.

  1. Use Windows 7 to setup Outlook to access the Hosted Exchange. This will allow Outlook to access multiple accounts from the same profile using the credential manager that comes with Windows 7.
  2. Install Act! and Outlook on the server and connect to the Act! database.
  3. Configure Outlook to access the folders on the Exchange server via the same profile. Search for "Setting up Outlook to access multiple accounts from same profile". We provide for a very simple one here. Video Tutorial.

5. Exchange AND Act! are Hosted. 123 Sync is installed on an Act! Remote Database Server.

  1. You must setup a separate server with Windows 7
  2. Configure Outlook to access the folders on the Exchange server via the same profile. Search for "Setting up Outlook to access multiple accounts from same profile". We provide for a very simple one here. Video Tutorial.
  3. Setup Act! RDB with Admin privileges so you have access to all the user data.
  4. Setup a regular sync between Act! and the Hosted Act! Server.
  5. Configure 123 Sync to Access Act! and the Outlook Folders. Video Tutorial

6. Sync Local Act! with a set of Cloud folders.

  1. Use Windows 7 to setup Outlook to access the Hosted Exchange. This will allow Outlook to access multiple accounts from the same profile using the credential manager that comes with Windows 7.
  2. Install Act! and Outlook on the server and connect to the Act! database.
  3. Configure Outlook to access the folders on the Exchange server via the same profile. Search for "Setting up Outlook to access multiple accounts from same profile". We provide for a very simple one here. Video Tutorial.
  4. Configure 123 Sync to Access Act! and the Outlook Folders. Cloud folders vary. However, select where these folders appear in Outlook. Most often you will have to select them using the Public Folder Selection in 123 Sync. Video Tutorial
